Well................I asked for it!

I literally did with this one!
I asked the girls to write down a few topics each that they were interested in or wanted to know more about to see if we could incorporate them into our homeschool. Anna wants to know more about Autism so I'm going to see what I can teach them about it on a level they'll understand. They both had 'bees' on their lists which ties in nicely with the FIAR title; ' The bee tree' so we'll definitely do that. Eva had ' bats' which we'll cover in depth around Halloween, and the 'Redwoods' (feeling a 'fieldtrip' to Avenue of the Giants, coming on with this one)......................but, what I really hadn't reckoned on was this ' topic' from Miss Eva........(in her words), "How babies are made and how they get in Ladies tummies".! Oops.......................gulp..............I don't know if I'm ready for this one!

  1. Hahaha Do let me know how you go about this one!! Jemimah has been asking for some time and I've managed to successfully avoid the answer. Not for much longer though...

PS I'm curious - how do you diagnose ASD in a 'nearly 2' yo? (Hope you don't mind me asking...)

  2. Hi Jeanne,
I just posted you a long response and lost it. Please don't ask me how...............I'm still trying to figure it out!Anyway because of our previous experience we'd suspected it for a long time but I needed confirmation to move on.
Jude had 3 hours of testing and was observed to have limited or insufficent eye contact, extreme reaction to stimuli, limited expressive and receptive language, no imaginary play or use of gesture, idiosynchratic posturing.......................there's more but if you know what to look for a child of this age can be diagnosed. For me it was good. It game me a sense of closure, a chance to grieve and accept and move forward. He's getting the very best of care and from such an early age and he's very high functioning so we're hopeful of the best positive outcome for him.
